Frenni Transport, a logistics firm with depots in Pembrokeshire and West Glamorgan, has built on its supportive culture to the armed forces community and ex-service personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge by businesses and organisations to acknowledge and honour the dedication and sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, both past and present, and their families.
In signing, Frenni Transport, a member of the Palletways network, demonstrates its continued dedication to providing support, recognition, and opportunities for those who have served or continue to serve their country and pledges to uphold a set of values and principles that will guide its efforts to assist veterans, reservists, and their families.
Simon Parry, Director of Frenni Transport, said: “We recognise the invaluable skills, experiences and qualities that members of the armed forces community can bring to the workforce. Ex-service personnel and reservists are resilient, adaptable, committed to teamwork and, very often, possess strong leadership and technical skills.
“These individuals have also sacrificed for our nation and providing them with meaningful opportunities is our way of honouring their service. In short, supporting members of the armed forces community is not only a strategic investment for our growth but a moral imperative.”
The leading logistics firm currently employs seven ex-service personnel, including long-distance HGV drivers and local collecting and delivering drivers, as well as two military spouses. One of those drivers is Martin Towsey, who had a rich service career across a variety of roles – including 34 years with the Royal Air Force Police – before joining Frenni Transport.
Martin, who is now a Day Truck HGV Class 1 Driver, said: “Being part of the armed forces runs in the family – growing up, my father was stationed at Brompton Barracks in Chatham and my grandfather served in the Royal Navy in World War II.
“During my resettlement, I emailed Simon Parry asking for help in getting to know the HGV industry. Simon kindly offered me a work placement, giving me a two-week insight into the company where I got hands-on experience and gained valuable knowledge. After completing the placement, I was offered a job as a Class 2 C&D driver and, over time, was given the opportunity to develop myself to a Class 1 driver.”
