Lanarkshire transport company wins top industry award

Shotts-based transport company, Stuart Nicol Transport, has recently been awarded ‘Scottish European Haulier of the Year’ at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards.

The Transport News Scottish Rewards Breakfast has remained popular since its inception 24 years ago – attracting over 600 haulage and logistics industry guests to Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Stuart Nicol Transport, a member of Palletways, the largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network, has grown significantly since it was founded by Stuart Nicol 21 years ago. The company, which originally used hire vans to courier packages in and out of Glasgow Airport, now boasts a fleet of over 50 tractor units and 80 trailers.

The company has designated 10% of this fleet for continental working, with trucks travelling to Ireland and Rotterdam in northern Holland daily. A significant part of orders received by the company also come from southern Spain, where trailers filled with Scottish food and drink are delivered to ex-patriots living in the region.

Stuart Nicol, Managing Director at Stuart Nicol Transport, said: “To be recognised as Scotland’s European Haulier of the Year is a huge boost to our hard-working team. We truly believe that our greatest strength as a company is our drivers and we’d like to thank them for all of their hard work.

“This award sends out a strong signal to our competitors about our strength and capabilities in the industry and we look forward to winning new business because of it.”

Stuart Nicol Transport is one of over 110 independent transport providers that are part of the Palletways UK network. They benefit from shared expertise and resources from within the group to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before. The Palletways Group comprises 400 depots and 17 hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 20 European countries, including the UK.
